Our vision is to teach kids principles and skills that will make them safer around water… teaching them HOW TO apply the skills they have learnt and ultimately enabling them to swim independently.

Our Story:

Kindyland Swim School is a highly specialized swim school that serve the babies, toddlers and disabled children of Windhoek.  The main goal is to offer a Training Center for swimming that will teach crucial aquatic safety skills as the number one goal.  WATER SAFETY is the key issue here and is further reinforced by our 1:4 instructor-to-child ratio per lesson.  Quality time and instruction in the water, and mastering skills that form the foundation for being-able-to-swim -- will naturally enable kids to learn to swim effectively.

I, Mrs. Pietjie Dauth, have been involved with swimming since 1996, and am coaching since 2003.  Qualifications includes Baby and Toddler Swim Instruction of Swim Australia, Swim Teacher of Swim Australia, Learners with Disabilities Swim Instruction of Swim Australia, ASCTA approved Course presenter of Swim Australia and Learn-to-Swim Instruction of Swimming South Africa.  I attended three, International Swim Conventions of ASCTA (Australian Swimming and Coaching Teachers’ Association) and am also a member of ASCTA.

'I have worked for local swim clubs in Namibia, Windhoek since 2003, but lived in another country from September 2008 to May 2010.  I have been involved in coaching throughout that time and worked with several different cultures and people groups.  After our return to Namibia in 2010, I started the process of establishing Kindyland Swim School.  I have been giving swimming lessons at a private pool from October 2010 until the completion of Kindyland’s facility in November 2011. '

Our facility includes a 10 x 4.5 meter swimming pool with an average depth of 1.3 m and a 0.7 m wide bench the length of the pool.  Here the children sit in waist deep water (0.2-0.25 m) while getting instructions and waiting their turn.

Being indoors, swimming classes can be presented throughout the year.  Further, due to the young age group we work with, the pool have sufficient heating systems (both a solar system, as well as a heat pump) to keep the pool temperature at a constant 31/32ºC.  A baby and young child cannot focus or learn when his/her body is cold, and therefore it is our duty to make it as comfortable as possible for them.

There is changing rooms separately for girls and boys and a paraplegic toilet that can be used by parents with children of the opposite sex.  We also have a Tuck shop for refreshments, swimming clothes and -accessories and an Office.

Since a trusted PARENT/CAREGIVER has to accompany their baby or young toddler (up to 3 years) in the water, the adults too will be educated in the rationale of our swim program, ‘what to do’ in emergency situations and drilling them in several safety precautions  needed to be taken to combat drowning or near-drowning incidents.

Water is a fun and healthy activity for people of all ages to enjoy and benefit from.  That is why Kindyland Swim School will also offer a service to DISABLED AND ‘SPECIAL NEEDS’ children – in giving them the opportunity to exercise and benefit their bodies greatly.

Swim coaching at Kindyland Swim School won’t teach swimming as a mere extramural activity.  It will FILL A DEFICIENCY in the world of water sports and activities.  It will EMPOWER children and adults to approach water activities with safety in mind and in doing so, enable them to ENJOY and appreciate water for the wonderful qualities it has.

Our swim school will host an environment that encourages- and rewards individuality – because every swimmer that tries a new skill is a winner already.  The giving of sound advice coupled with practical skills is an unbeatable combination in a developing country like Namibia.

Kindyland Swim School will deliver on our goals and it will do the three things our logo stresses, namely ‘Fun, Skill Mastery and Safety’.
